(Los Angeles – May 8, 2012) Southern California business leader and philanthropist Meyer Luskin has been appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors at Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital (LAOH) effective
June 1.

Current Chairman of the Board, Paul S. Viviano has accepted the position as the new CEO of UC San Diego Health System and Associate Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences. His appointment will commence June 1. Mr. Viviano and his family are relocating to San Diego to assume his new position.

Mr. Luskin has been involved with LAOH for six years serving joint appointments on both the Foundation Board of Trustees and LAOH Board of Directors. Mr. Luskin and his wife, Renee, are known for their unwavering commitment to children’s health, medical, education and scientific research as demonstrated by their philanthropic support of LAOH including the establishment of the Renee and Meyer Luskin Children’s Clinic of Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital located at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital. Mr. Luskin is President, CEO and Chairman of Scope Industries, which recycles bakery waste to make an animal-feed ingredient.

Complementing Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital’s alliance with UCLA, the Renee and Meyer Luskin Children’s Clinic of Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital opened in 2009 in West Los Angeles. In January of this year the clinic relocated to the new Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital. The clinic serves the needs of children in Los Angeles and surrounding areas with world-class pediatric orthopaedic care. Mr. and Mrs. Luskin generously provided the seed funding for the clinic and, in 2011, announced an additional commitment of $1 million to Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital, the single largest gift made by an individual benefactor during his or her lifetime in the 100-year history of the institution.

“Meyer Luskin is a talented, experienced and tremendously giving individual. He provides our institution with grounded business acumen and vision, and has a sensitive and compassionate heart for the children and families we serve,” says Anthony A. Scaduto, M.D., LAOH President and CEO. “Meyer’s leadership will resonate through our Board and into our community, helping us to expand our capabilities of serving a greater number of children and continue to build our alliance with UCLA.”

“I wholeheartedly accept this position and challenge because I believe that every child should be given the opportunity to be healthy, and lead full and productive lives,” states Mr. Luskin. “There is no better place than Orthopaedic Hospital to make that happen for children with crippling conditions. There is a special spirit at LAOH and it is an honor to be asked to be its Board Chair.”

Renee and Meyer Luskin are longtime supporters of UCLA. Mr. Luskin met his wife while she was a UCLA student. He completed his bachelor's degree at UCLA and then earned an M.B.A. from Stanford University. In 2011, the Luskins demonstrated their confidence in UCLA as a force for addressing society’s most important challenges, through a $100 million gift to support the university’s ability to foster meaningful and effective exchange of ideas among scholars, civic leaders and the community. In recognition of the gift, UCLA’s school of public affairs was renamed the Meyer and Renee Luskin School of Public Affairs and a planned residential conference center, which share interconnected goals, will be named after the Luskins.

The Luskins reside in Brentwood, California.
