James V. Luck, Jr., M.D. Being Honored on November 4, 2011
At Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital Centennial Anniversary Celebration

LOS ANGELES, October 27, 2011-- Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital (LAOH), a world leader in pediatric orthopaedic treatment, research and education, will celebrate its Centennial Anniversary and honor James V. Luck, Jr., M.D. at an event on November 4, 2011 at the Lexus Landmark Showroom in Santa Monica. Honorary LAOH Centennial Event Co-Chairs are Thomas V. McKernan, chief executive officer of the Automobile Club of Southern California and Dr. Robert R. Dockson, philanthropist and retired chairman and CEO of California Federal Bank.

According to Auto Club CEO Tom McKernan, “Dr. Luck became chief executive officer of Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital in 1989, and through his leadership the institution has experienced the greatest expansion in its history. The alliance with UCLA attests to the power and strength of Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital, and it was an idea that saw its genesis in Jim’s mind’s eye. He has worked tirelessly to make it a reality.”

Both McKernan and Dockson accepted the event co-chair positions out of their admiration and respect for LAOH, its 100-year history and continuing impact on the community, and Dr. Luck’s lifetime commitment to the institution. McKernan said, “Jim Luck started volunteering at Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital 50 years ago when he was in high school, and after completing his residency through USC in 1969, he has never left. His leadership is extraordinary.”

LAOH recently announced that Anthony A. Scaduto, M.D. will serve as the interim president and CEO of Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital. Dr. Scaduto replaces Dr. James Luck who announced his plans to retire as President and CEO in 2010 in order to focus on his clinical practice and his leadership positions in the LAOH Hemophilia Treatment Center as well as medical education including the residency program in alliance with UCLA. Luck will also direct efforts toward the LAOH Conservancy Program.
