Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital Names Mickie H. Faris Vice President of Advancement
LOS ANGELES – February 10, 2010 – Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital is pleased to announce that Mickie H. Faris has accepted an appointment as the Vice President of Advancement for Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital and the Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital Foundation.  In this role she will assume leadership of all of the hospital’s fundraising activities including the major gifts program and improving the overall performance of the existing fundraising and external relations activities.

For the past two and a half years, Faris was the Chief Development Officer for the American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles, which is the second largest chapter of America’s best known humanitarian organization. Before that, Faris was Associate Dean of External Relations at the University of Southern California’s Ethel Percy Andrus Gerontology Center, one of the world’s leading institutions in aging research and education. She has also acted as Deputy Executive Director at the National Kidney Foundation of Southern California; Director of Development and Public Relations at the Center for Health Aging in Santa Monica; and as a senior associate with a national consulting firm.

“We are very excited that Mickie Faris has joined our team.  She brings with her over 30 years of experience in non-profit management, fundraising, and external relations and will serve as a key member of the hospital’s senior management team,” said Dr. James V. Luck, Jr., president, chief executive officer and medical director of Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital. “With her guidance, we are certain that we will reach our goal of continued medical service for children in need of orthopaedic care and the advancement of orthopaedic sciences.“

A Certified Fundraising Executive, Faris is on the faculty of UCLA Extension, and served as a Subject Matter Expert with CFRE International, the premier provider of professional certification of proficiency and practice in fundraising for philanthropic fundraising executives. She has also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Greater Los Angeles chapter.

“I’m thrilled to be joining this amazing institution that has been providing critical medical services to the greater Los Angeles community for close to 100 years. There are enormous opportunities to build on our history of success and to move forward with outstanding orthopaedic care with the opening of our new hospital in Santa Monica, and our state-of-the-art research facility on the UCLA campus.  I am fortunate to see the results of our continued commitment to excellence in pediatric orthopaedic medicine every day when I see the faces of the children and their families at our clinic and urgent care facilities located on the downtown campus.  The need for our expert medical services is growing exponentially and my job is to ensure that these children will continue to get the help they need,” commented Faris.

Faris holds a bachelors degree in Health and Safety from San Diego State University, a masters degree in Public Health from California State University at Northridge, and received her M.B.A. from Pepperdine University. Faris is also an accomplished author and frequent speaker at professional conferences.
