Bel Air Resident, Joan Prestine Receives New Board Appointment
at Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital
Joan Prestine(Los Angeles – April 2, 2012) Joan Prestine, celebrated author and communityleader, has been appointed as Secretary of the Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital(LAOH) Board of Trustees.
“My involvement with Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital has been extremely rewarding. As a grandmother of seven, I’m well aware of the need for pediatric orthopaedic treatment and care. Children are very active and broken bones are part of most families’ experience. But what many of us don’t know is that treating fractures in children is critical to growth and avoiding problems later in life.”
In addition to serving on the Board, Mrs. Prestine serves on the newly established PR and Communications Ad Hoc Committee of the Board, and she is organizing an Exotic Car Show scheduled for April 28, 2012 in partnership with the Orthopaedic Hospital Medical Magnet High School(OHMMHS).
“This car show is a way of spreading the word about Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital and the commitment to training the next generation of scientists and clinicians,” says Mrs. Prestine. LAOH expanded its commitment to serving the downtown Los Angeles community through an alliance with LAUSD resulting in the creation of the Orthopaedic Hospital Medical Magnet High School in 2004. The OHMMHS serves 850 students who demonstrate interest and scholastic achievement in science. The High School is located adjacent to the hospital and students and physicians frequently travel between the two facilities for educational opportunities.
“This event is a wonderful opportunity for families to see exotic cars, including movie cars, and learn about their mechanical function from the OHMMHS physics club,” says Mrs. Prestine. The Exotic Car Show is free to the public. It is presented by the Ferrari Club of America, Southwest Region. For more information on the car show contact Jim Bindman at
