What is Clubfoot?
One out of every 1,000 babies is born with a clubfoot deformity. The male-to-female ratio is 2:1, and both feet are involved 30 to 50 percent of the time. A clubfoot is apparent at birth and may even be found on a prenatal ultrasound examination. A clubfoot has all of the following features: adduction - or inward turning - of the metatarsals, varus - or inversion of the hindfoot, equinus - or plantarflexion - of the ankle, and cavus - or high arch - of the forefoot. Generally, these abnormalities are rigid to some degree.
Orthopaedic Hospital Clubfoot Clinic
Recognizing the need for advanced treatment options of this disorder, the Children's Clinic at Orthopaedic Hospital Outpatient Medical Center and Dr. Lewis Zionts offer a Clubfoot Clinic that is dedicated to the treatment of newborns and infants with congenital clubfoot deformity.
Dr. Zionts is experienced in the use of non-invasive clubfoot treatment techniques, with the assistance of physical therapists to assist with manipulations, cast technicians experienced in cast application for correction, and an orthotist to assist with bracing needs to help maintain correction of deformity. Dr. Ponseti, on his website, has included Dr. Zionts as one of the physicians qualified in his method.

Advantages of Non-Surgical or Minimally Invasive Treatment Methods
Non-surgical or minimally invasive treatment methods prevents persistent stiffness and scarring of the foot, reduces complications and the need for additional surgical procedures and lessens muscle weakness which can become more severe and disabling when patients are in their 20s and 30s.
