New Name. Same Dedication to Healing.

New Name. Same Dedication to Healing.

Celebration Event

LOS ANGELES, October 10, 2013 – The official celebration event to honor our past and celebrate our future as Orthopaedic Institute for Children (OIC) will be held in the "Palm Drive Area" of the downtown campus at 403 West Adams Blvd., Los Angeles 90007 on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 from 11:00 am to noon.

“This event is a milestone for OIC”, said Anthony A. Scaduto, M.D., president and CEO of OIC. “I sincerely hope everyone will join us to honor our achievements over the last 102 years, and witness our promising future under our new name.”

The event will feature several keynote speakers, including patient-ambassador Sandra Fuentes, and her physician, Dr. Richard Bowen, OIC's director of Pediatric Sports Medicine. Fuentes was a previous patient at OIC and has recently enlisted in the United States Army. Other key speakers include Dr. Scaduto, who will lead us all in a toast.

In addition to the speakers, a new banner will be unveiled on the Lowman building, and we will rededicate the life-size "Children at Play" statues, gifts from The Charitable Children’s Guild, a support group of OIC.

After a century of devoted work to children with orthopaedic conditions, Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital now formally changes its name to OIC. The new name reflects a continuous commitment to children with musculoskeletal disorders regardless of their ability to pay.

Refreshments will be served and parking is complimentary for the event. Please RSVP to Mary Beth Perrine at Mperrine@mednet.ucla.eduor (213) 742-1534. For additional information about the event, please visit our website Ortho-Institute.org.

About OIC:

For over a century and with more than two million children served, the mission of
OIC has been to provide outstanding care for patients with musculoskeletal disorders and advance care worldwide for all musculoskeletal patients through medical education and scientific research – and through the support of the Orthopaedic Foundation
– to provide care for children regardless of their families’ ability to pay.

In partnership with UCLA Health System and jointly funded by
OIC and UCLA, the Orthopaedic Hospital Research Center, located on the UCLA Westwood campus, was constructed in 2007 and the new Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital opened in January 2012, greatly expanding OIC’s research efforts, medical education programs and pediatric orthopaedic care. With treatment and research locations across Southern California, OIC is uniquely positioned as a leader in treating the full spectrum of orthopaedic needs.
