The World's Leading Orthopaedic Research Center
In 2007, the research activities of Orthopaedic Hospital and UCLA combined to create the largest coordinated orthopaedic research effort in the United States. The new Research Center located on the UCLA-Westwood campus brings together some of the best minds in orthopaedic and biologic science. The new facility enables Orthopaedic Hospital to greatly expand its musculoskeletal research activities to explore and develop new technologies for the discipline of orthopaedic surgery, in addition to new developments in gene therapy, musculoskeletal oncology, tissue engineering and biomedical engineering.
Combining the multidisciplinary research firepower of UCLA, which is one of the top medical research universities in the nation in public and private grant support, and the exceptional orthopaedic research at Orthopaedic Hospital, the research spans orthopaedics, bioengineering, molecular, cellular and developmental biology, genetics and gene therapy.
The five-story research center spans 95,000-square-feet, and houses faculty offices, administrative offices, a 60-seat lecture hall and four floors of sophisticated biologic research laboratories and support facilities essential in leading research.
