President's Message

Anthony A. Scaduto, M.D.
Interim President and Chief Executive Officer
Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital
Dear Friends:

To walk, run, and play. These are basic “rights” we associate with childhood. The gift of motion gives every child the tools to grow – to physically reach out and explore the world in order to be stimulated mentally, emotionally, and socially. This feeds the growing child as surely as the five servings of fruits and vegetables kids (indeed, all of us!) are encouraged to have every day for good health.

But what happens when these “rights” are taken away? Whether this is from a quirk of genetic fate or a sudden traumatic shock, and whether the implications are long-term or brief, when a child’s growth is interrupted, childhood is interrupted too.

When a child’s body cannot walk, run or play – that is when we at Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital (LAOH) come into their life. When a child and their family are facing a great challenge to this natural movement of childhood, and often after they have been told they can’t be helped elsewhere, we come into their life.

We are here to help.

LAOH does a remarkable job of getting kids back on track and moving again. Especially today, when an enormous part of the challenge families face is getting kids care from a doctor who is familiar with and comfortable treating their special orthopaedic needs, and getting this care in the time frame needed.

We do it through the quality of our programming. We do it through the caliber of our clinicians and staff. We do it through the determination of our research teams, through the talent and enthusiasm of our young fellows and residents, and through the always generous involvement of our supporters and benefactors. These are our Heroes – those individuals who help children regain the gift of motion.

Our staff work together to weave our mission components of care, medical education and research into a multifaceted approach to care that does the best job possible of setting kids in motion.

Each day, I am increasingly grateful for the opportunity to work with our heroes, and ever more certain that the difference we make in children’s lives and in the life of our community is unique and irreplaceable. It is an opportunity, responsibility and joy like no other, to set children in motion.

Sincerely,

Anthony A. Scaduto, M.D.
President and Chief Executive Officer
