In 2003, Orthopaedic Hospital built one of the largest children's orthopaedic outpatient centers in the nation to house the majority of its children's orthopaedic and pediatric medical care for Los Angeles and the surrounding communities.
The new 40,000-square-foot Outpatient Medical Center is adjacent to the Orthopaedic Urgent Care in the 100,000 square-foot Lowman Center on the Orthopaedic Medical Center campus near downtown Los Angeles. Doctors at the downtown campus are now able to increase access for children with crippling musculoskeletal disorders with capacity to almost double the number of outpatient visits previously seen. The ability to treat more patients makes a critical difference in the successful outcome of many complex pediatric orthopaedic disorders.
The Outpatient Medical Center houses 13 examination rooms, a large cast room accommodating 12 stations, four state-of-the-art digital imaging rooms, telemedicine conference facilities, several waiting rooms, administrative and support facilities and a lobby for patient and visitor health education.
